Australian Functional Foods (AFF) will join the Australian contingent exhibiting at Asia Fruit Logistica 2017 in Hong Kong in September. Fruit Logistica trade fairs cover every sector of the fresh produce business, gathering together suppliers and customers to share insights that will help evolve the industry.
AFF General Manager, Derek Robinson, said Asia Fruit Logistica would provide a forum for assessing competitor products and for getting a feel for what consumers, in particular Asian consumers, want.
“Fruit Logistica is also an opportunity for seeing the latest technological advancements from the horticultural end, to packaging and new product formulations.”
Derek attended Fruit Logistica in Berlin in February and was impressed by the extraordinary scale of the event. “There were more than 3000 exhibitors in Germany, yet there weren’t a lot of products similar to our antioxidant-rich cherry crush and powder.”
“It’s encouraging to know we have a real point of difference,” said Derek. “It’s also encouraging to see how our products work with emerging food trends like the increasing focus on functional foods, solely plant-based diets, and on waste reduction. Right now we’re looking at options for using cherry crush as the base for a Tetra Pak gazpacho.”
“Our cherry products contain whole cherries, minus the seeds and stems. We eliminate waste and harness the powerful anti-oxidants contained in the skin.”
“Of course, we also consider the flavour and textural quality of our products,” said Derek. “There is no use offering nutritional value without meeting the taste demands of consumers.”
Asia Fruit Logistica will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo venue in Hong Kong on 6-8 September 2017. The organisers are predicting visitor numbers of around 11,000 buyers and trade visitors from 74 countries.
