Read about our novel processing in FIAL’s Innovations publication
Australian Functional Foods’ novel cherry processing technology is showcased in the 2017 edition of Celebrating Australian Food and Agribusiness Innovations alongside 49 other innovative enterprises.
The publisher, Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL), assembled a panel from industry, academia and research with food and agribusiness credentials to assess the innovations. The assessment criteria included such things as the benefits to the end-user; persistence in bringing the innovation to life; and whether the innovation was new to the business, the industry, the country or the world.
The panel also assessed the innovations for their alignment with at least one of the seven CSIRO-nominated megatrends that are shaping the world today. Australian Functional Foods’ processing technology uses lower-grade cherries – skin and all – to create a rich and creamy anthocyanin-rich beverage. It aligns with the increasing demand for foods for healthy ageing, and the trend for greater resource efficiency.
